I Did One Thing Today and That’s Enough: Productivity, Rebranded

You know what productivity culture forgot? Neurodivergent brains.

Because some days, getting out of bed is the big win.
Responding to that one email? Heroic.
Brushing your teeth and also feeding yourself? Honestly? Iconic.

So I’m here to say it loud:
I did one thing today. And that’s enough.

The Cult of the To-Do List

Let’s talk about that never-ending, soul-sucking, anxiety-inducing beast of a list. You know the one. It’s got 47 tasks, 12 sub-tasks, 3 tabs open in your brain, and no real sense of priority. And if you’re anything like me, you either:

  1. Avoid it altogether while spiraling in guilt, or

  2. Hyperfocus on reorganizing it instead of actually doing anything.

Welcome to life with executive dysfunction, where we’re either doing nothing or everything at once while forgetting to eat.

Redefining Success, Neurospicy Style

Success doesn’t have to be crossing off 20 things. Sometimes, it’s:

  • Making that doctor’s appointment you’ve been avoiding for 6 months.

  • Answering one of the 37 unread texts.

  • Opening your laptop and staring at the screen until your brain boots up.

  • Drinking water. (Hydration is a win, fight me.)

These aren’t small things. Not when your brain is doing somersaults just trying to regulate, prioritize, and function in a world that wasn’t designed for you.

Productivity ≠ Value

Let’s break this one down for the perfectionists in the back:
You are not your output.
You are not lazy. You’re not broken. You’re not falling behind.
You’re a whole person doing your best with a brain that takes the scenic route—and probably stops at three hyperfixation pit stops on the way.

The goal is sustainability, not self-erasure.
The goal is showing up in whatever capacity you can—and not punishing yourself for what you can’t.

The One Thing Rule

Here’s my new life hack:
Every day, I pick one thing I want to do. Just one.
If I do it? Gold star, dopamine hit, celebration dance.
If I do more? Cool.
If I only do that one thing? Still a win. No shame. No spiral.

Because sometimes, one thing is all your brain has to give—and that’s not just okay, it’s valid as hell.

🌈 TL;DR: Your worth isn’t measured in crossed-out checkboxes.

Celebrate the wins. The real ones. The neurodivergent ones.
And if today’s big moment was taking your meds or folding one shirt or sending that one overdue text—you freaking DID THAT.
